Multimedia Game Engine as Distributed Conceptualisation and Prototyping Tool - Contextual Virtual Reality Prototyping

چکیده

Lack of the use environment and context in Virtual Reality Prototypes (VRP) makes it difficult for R&D and marketing people to exploit the computerised models of mobile devices. The concepts of a future product can be difficult to understand, evaluate and market in cases where a fully functioning physical prototype is not an option. One solution for the problem is Contextual Virtual Reality Prototyping that enlarges the concept of VRP by adding the missing context to the simulations. The proposed solution is based on the utilisation of an entertainment industry application and it will provide possibilities for cost-effective, collaborative, and distributed prototyping and demonstration work. An example of Contextual VRP, illustrating an imaginary concept of a mobile augmented reality console, has been implemented using the Unreal game engine. The proposed approach enables enhancement of the scope, efficiency, and reusage factors of the product design, development, testing, and marketing. The product can be tried out and demonstrated in the corresponding environment, thus making it easier to understand the use-cases of, for example, a mobile device that has various locationdependent features.
